Investigation underway after inmate dies at Wilcox State Prison

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating after an inmate death at Wilcox State Prison.

ABBEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating after an inmate death at Wilcox State Prison.

According to GDC spokesperson Joan Heath, Arthur Williams died on Thursday.

Williams’ body will be turned over to the county coroner and taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death.

Williams was serving 12 years for aggravated assault out of Newton County and had a maximum release date of December 2025.
