UPDATE: Suspect in 2023 fatal I-75 South crash taken into custody, released on bond

UPDATE (11/19/25): A man wanted in connection with a 2023 fatal crash on Interstate 75 South was taken into custody last week and has since bonded out.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, James Leamon Hayes was taken to the Bibb County Jail on November 12. Hayes was wanted on charges of homicide by vehicle in the second degree and following too closely.

The sheriff’s office said Hayes bonded out the following afternoon.

The charges stem from a November 27, 2023 crash on I-75 South near the Pierce Avenue on-ramp. Deputies said five vehicles were involved, including a box truck, three pickup trucks and an SUV.

66-year-old Jeffrey Louis Davis of Lyons died in the crash. Four other motorists were taken to a hospital in stable condition, and another driver had minor injuries.

Investigators said 2023 that they were working to determine what led to the multi-vehicle collision.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – At least one person is dead after a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 South Monday afternoon.

It happened around 1:45 near the Pierce Avenue on-ramp, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies say a box truck, three pickup trucks and a sports utility vehicle were involved.

One man, identified as 66-year-old Jeffrey Louis Davis of Lyons, Georgia, was pronounced dead. Four other motorists were treated by paramedics for injuries and were taken to a medical facility. They are all listed in stable condition. One additional motorist was treated for minor injuries.

Expect traffic delays as the investigation continues.
