Houston County superintendent responds to Northside High School fight

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Houston County Superintendent Dr. Mark Scott says he and the school board will take swift action on the incident at Northside High School.

41NBC obtained new cellphone video shows what’s believed to be Daniel Kelly, a social studies teacher, and a student getting into a fight before falling to the ground.

Scott says the students’ and Kelly’s future will ultimately come from his and the school board’s decision.

“We want our employees to be professional, and we want our students to be respectful. We know in today’s society that doesn’t always happen, but we have little control over those incidents that occur, what occurs. So it’s how we react to those incidents,” Scott said.

41NBC also obtained a police report from the Warner Robins Police Department.

It confirms an incident happened at the school.

Kelly is on paid administrative leave.

According to the student’s mother, he has been suspended until next Wednesday.

Kelly is allowed to have a hearing in front of the school board where he will able to call up witnesses and ask questions.

No date for the hearing has been set.

Students are showing their support for Kelly online.

A Northside High alum created a “Justice for Coach Kelly” Facebook group.

People are posting positive messages about Kelly, stating he is a great teacher and coach.
