Houston County elementary school celebrates first ‘farm day’

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Houston County elementary school has “kids” walking the halls on Wednesday and not the actual students.

Lake Joy Elementary celebrated its first farm day to teach students about agriculture.

Perdue Farms, the Beef Board, and others made presentations.

Dennis Peavy says it’s important to teach children at an early age about where their food comes from.

“You don’t have to be a farmer to be involved in agriculture. You could be involved in machinery, you can be involved in the distribution, you can be involved in many ways. Agriculture is a very viable industry,” Peavy said.

He says he got the idea to put together the farm day after his students thought their food came from the grocery store instead of farms.
