Hot & humid conditions lasts into midweek

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Enhanced moisture remains in place across northern and Middle Georgia. Moisture continues to be pushed onshore by Tropical Depression Two, which

is located over the Gulf, 170 miles south southeast of Panama City, Florida. In addition, there is ample instability. This abundant moisture and instability is more than sufficient to sustain  scattered thunderstorm activity through the evening, and decreasing after 7 PM. There is a risk for severe thunderstorms (0 out of 5) throughout the viewing area. The greatest threats are  damaging winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. As the diurnally and outflow driven thunderstorms taper off and eventually come to an end tonight, mostly clear skies are likely.

Overnight lows will be in the mid 70s. The frontal boundary to the north is not expected to move significantly, nor is TD 2. With that being said, some lifting aloft is forecast for today, which could inhibit some of the instability/convective development.  This will not prevent activity, however, scattered showers and thunderstorms are anticipated around midday. Daytime highs will be in the mid 80s to mid 90s; as heat indices will be in the  upper 80s to low 100s. Highs in the mid to upper 90s are expected every day with feel-like temperatures exceeding triple digits. By Wednesday, a Heat Advisory will probably be issued for portions of Middle and eastern parts of the coverage area as Heat Index Values exceed 105. Little in the way of relief is expected during the overnight hours as temperatures only fall into the low to mid 70s. A cold front Wednesday into Thursday will give us a quick break from the heat and humidity as we close out the work week; although highs will still be in the upper 80s and lower 90s. That lower humidity will help break the chokehold of triple digit heat index values as we roll into next weekend.
