MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local program that has helped homeless veterans for a decade is changing ownership.

Homeport Veterans Transition Home on Harrison Road in Macon has provided housing for veterans by turning a hotel into a livable space with help from volunteers.

Founder and Director George Brown says the facility will close July 31 because of his health. However, he says the mission will continue under new ownership.

“Dr. Felden is gonna continue the mission,” Brown said. “He has his own reasons, and he has his own philosophy of how he’s going to administer the program, but he has already stated that he’s going to have a reduced rent for the veterans who come to live here.”

Brown says the change comes after 10 years of service.
