HoCo baseball now one win away from first state title
Houston County met up with Whitewater, looking to claim the school’s first baseball state title. The Bears jumped out to a 5-1 lead in Game 1 before Whitewater tied it up in the bottom of the sixth inning. HoCo’s Jake Fromm put the Bears back ahead, 6-5, in the top of the seventh before the Wildcats struck again in the bottom of the inning.
With two men on, Taylor Turner launched a ball over the left field foul pole. Some said it was fair, some said it was foul. After the umpires met to discuss it, they called it a home run. Whitewater walked off with Game 1, 8-6.
In Game 2, the Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Bears stormed back.
Knowing another loss meant their season was over, the Bears forced extra innings before a walk-off single by Justin Jones in the bottom of the ninth gave the Bears the 8-6 win.
Game 3 is in Fayetteville Tuesday at 2.
