Hit and Run Suspect Denied Bond

LIZELLA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A driver arrested for running down a cyclist, made his first appearance in magistrate court, Thursday and was denied bond.

Michael Shaun Bryant was taken into custody Wednesday, by Crawford County deputies.

He was wanted for running over 36-year-old cyclist, Ricky Bacchus, during a hit and run, Nov. 12, on Sandy Point Road near Creekview Drive.

Bryant who is also thirty six, lives on Sandy Point Road.

Crawford County Deputies and Georgia State Patrol Troopers responded to the hit and run. At that time, Bacchus was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in serious condition. Two days later he died.

Magistrate Court Judge Richard Spencer denied Bryant bond.

He is charged with “first degree homicide by a vehicle” and

Bryant has been charged with first degree homicide by Vehicle, hit And run, failure to report accident with injury/death/damage, following too closely among other charges.

Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker says they are not sure if Bacchus and Bryant knew each other. They were both from Lizella.
