Historic Macon’s 39th Annual Flea Market

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Historic Macon’s 39th Annual Flea Market kicks off this weekend.

The Historic Macon Foundation’s mission is to revitalize and preserve historic Macon. They host the event every year, but this year they are in a new and more permanent location. Emily Hopkins, Special Events and Marketing Coordinator is excited to hold the flea market at their new location.

“”Historic Macon actually purchased this warehouse we’re in right now,” Hopkins said. “This is a great move for us because it just allows us to expand our flea market more and more.”

The warehouse is located in downtown, 357 Oglethorpe Street.

Volunteers dedicated more than 1,200 hours into preparing for the sale. They also collected thousands of items over the year. One of the volunteers, Jim Barfield, has helped the organization for more than 25 years.

“I would like to see future generations see what we have here in terms of our great architecture and to know about our very fine history,” Barfield said.

93 cents of every dollar made this weekend will go to preserving historic buildings.

The flea market will be open Saturday, November 5th from 8 AM- 3 PM and Sunday, November 6th 1 PM-
