Historic Macon to Nominate Ingleside to National Register
A Macon neighborhood is receiving big honors this evening. The Historic Macon Foundation will nominate the Ingleside Neighborhood to the National Register of Historic Places. If the National Register of Historic Places accepts the Ingleside Neighborhood into the Register of Historic Places, this will be Macon’s 13th historic district.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. If Ingleside is put on the National Register, there could be some incentives for homeowners whose homes are considered historic buildings.Homeowners will be eligible for tax credit programs that can reimburse them for maintaining and renovating their homes and even freeze property tax values.
“Ingleside is obviously a historic district already; it’s just not official. There is some great history in the neighborhood. There are many buildings of the right age…of the appropriate age to be on the National Register. It’s just that no one has nominated it yet,” said Jenifer Mayer, Public Relations Coordinator of Historic Macon.
A preservation contractor will submit the draft nomination to the State Historic Preservation Office this summer.
