Historic Macon plans second trip to Cuba
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Historic Macon is planning a trip to Cuba. This is the organization’s second time taking people to see the Caribbean country.
“It’s just an adventure I’ve always wanted to do,” said Blair Train.
Train couldn’t wait to visit Cuba when Historic Macon offered its first trip in 2013.
“I don’t know if it was the mystique of ‘you can’t go there’ which makes you want to go there even more, but I have always wanted to go to Cuba so when this came up, I was like yes,” recalled Train.
The first visit was so successful, the organization is planning another one this fall.
“Cuba is such a destination for architectural interest. It’s a country that’s stopped in time, basically,” said Trish Whitley from Historic Macon.
Train remembers feeling like she stepped into a time machine.
“Seeing our old 1949 Cadillacs in pristine condition. When they say you’re going to be stepping back in time, you are,” said Train.
The focus of the trip is to see how the country preserves its history.
“They will tear out what’s in the inside, preserve what’s on the outside and build around that. They are that concerned about preserving their old buildings,” explained Train.
Train feels she came back with a new appreciation for the country’s culture and she can’t wait to go back.
The approximate cost of the trip is $3,134 per person excluding travel to Miami. This number may change based on the fare of charter flight from Miami to Cuba. Those who require a single room must pay an extra $799.
To secure a reservation, a nonrefundable deposit of $300 per person is due by April 14 to Historic Macon. For more information click here.
