Historic Macon building to be turned into loft space

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – City leaders were in downtown Macon Monday afternoon to announce renovations to a historic building.

The former Silvers Department Store, located at 450 Third Street, has been vacant since 1986.  Now a new development, part of the loan fund project established by NewTown Macon in 2012, will see loft space created.

Scott Thompson of TI Real Estate, a developer on the project, believes the continued renovations will be a boost for the city, “It’s really benfitting the downtown area. Helping increase the tax base, and more importantly, getting more feet on the street.”

This is the last of eight properties that were refurbished under NewTown Macon’s loan bond fund. Once completed, it is estimated the additional value created by the renovations will be upwards of $26 million.
