Historic Macon announces five properties that need attention

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Historic Macon identified five properties in Macon that are endangered.

These places are in danger because of neglect or possible demolition. The organization says 25 properties were nominated for Macon’s Fading Five list. The five properties on the first list are:

Schofield Iron Works Complex – 521 Fifth Street
Alexander IV Elementary School – 3769 Ridge Avenue
Cotton Avenue District
BonnyBrae-Bedgood House – 1073 Georgia Avenue
Ware House – 1107 Oglethorpe Street

“They represent pieces of our history, parts of our culture, buildings that can’t be replaced today. Not only are the materials invaluable, but the resources that went into these buildings are critical,” said Ethiel Garlington, the Executive Director of Historic Macon.

For a property to be considered for the list it must have historic significance, be in danger, and have the potential to be saved if given the proper attention.
