BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A “major fuel spill” Thursday afternoon led to the closure of Highway 49 at I-75 in Byron.

The Byron Police Department made the announcement in a Facebook post just after 5 p.m.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan to take alternate routes.

“Unsure for how long,” the post stated.

A 511GA.org update says a crash resulted in the closure of all lanes of Highway 49.
