Former teachers from a closed Fort Valley school open a new Christ-centered academy in Byron

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new school is preparing to open its doors in Byron, offering families another education option ahead of the upcoming school year.

Heritage Christian Academy is getting ready for its first year after leaders say another local school closed. Rather than stepping away, three educators decided to create something new—turning a difficult situation into an opportunity to continue doing what they love.

School Director Amanda Hager says the decision to start the academy felt natural.

“We decided we wanted to open a school of our own because we love teaching, we love kids, and we wanted to continue what we were doing,” she said.

The academy is already welcoming students, with about 10 currently enrolled and space for up to 25. It will serve grades K-4 through 8th.

Teachers say the school is built on a Christ-centered foundation, with a focus that goes beyond traditional academics.

“My ultimate goal was to be able to plant seeds into all of these children’s hearts,” said Rebecca Robinson, a first and second grade teacher. “Our school is based off of a Christ-centered foundation, and we wanted to keep that going. We needed something in this area that could help guide these children.”

School leaders say they hope to continue growing while giving parents another option for their children’s education.

Families are invited to learn more during an open house on August 7, followed by orientation on August 10. The first day of school is August 12.
