Bibb County Pre-K registration underway
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School District has 729 Pre-K spots open, but the program director, Lori Smith, said they fill up fast.
Registration for Pre-K starts Monday, February 1 and runs until February 14.
Smith said kids aren’t required to go to school until they’re six, but if they miss out on early childhood education, they’re behind when they start first grade.
“They learn to write their name. They learn their colors. They learn their shapes. Some of the most important things they learn are to get along with others, to listen and follow directions, to be part of a group. They learn to make choices. There’s just a wide variety of skills that children need,” explained Smith.
Smith added the district reviews kindergarten teachers every year to find out what skills children are lacking when they come to that grade. She said enrollment interest is very high most years and the district often has to turn children away from the program. Children are chosen for the district’s pre-k program by a lottery drawing.
Registration is completely online this year. If you don’t have a computer at home, you can go to Northwoods Academy on Pierce Ave Saturday February 6 and 13 to register.
