GBI: Shooting in Hawkinsville leaves one injured, one arrested, one wanted

The GBI says 21-year-old Nickelas Adams was arrested, while 20-year-old David Walker is wanted.

HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says one man is in custody and another is wanted after a shooting investigation in Hawkinsville.

According to a news release, the GBI arrested and charged 21-year-old Nickelas Adams of Warner Robins with one count of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Investigators have also obtained arrest warrants for 20-year-old David Walker of Hawkinsville for two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The GBI says the preliminary investigation shows the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1st Franklin Financial in Hawkinsville around 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, August 21 in reference to a person who had been shot. Deputies found Adams and another man in the parking lot near a silver 2024 Toyota Corolla. The man with Adams had been shot multiple times and was taken to the hospital. Investigators say the Corolla also had multiple bullet holes.

The man who’d been shot has not been identified and his condition has not been provided.

According to the release, deputies later searched neighborhoods near Jelks Street in Hawkinsville and found numerous cartridge cases in and around the roadway. Preliminary findings indicate there was an exchange of gunfire between two groups of people on Jelks Street. Investigators say the circumstances that led to the gunfire are unknown.

The GBI says Adams was taken into custody at the scene and remains at the Pulaski County Law Enforcement Center.

On Friday, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that Walker is considered armed and dangerous and urged anyone with information about his location to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at (478) 783-1212.

The GBI says additional arrests are expected.
