Hass Leads the Way for GC Men’s Tennis at ITA Fall Regionals

SUMTER, S.C. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College men’s tennis team finished the round of 32 today at the ITA Fall Regional Championship.

Leading the way for the Bobcats in singles play was Yannik Hass (Troisdorf, Germany), advancing to round of 32 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Andrew Bafume of Queens University. The next match-up for Hass was Alejandro Andino of USC Aiken. Hass downed Andino in three sets winning 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, good enough to advance to the sweet 16.

Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) had a tough match-up against Victor Guimaraes of GRU Augusta, losing in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) battled three sets with Ignacio Hernandez-Cajal of Armstrong Atlantic State University, but was unable to come up with the victory, losing 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.

Starting the doubles match for the Bobcats in the ITA Fall Championship was Hass and Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) up against Pablo Gor-Costales and Pedro Scocuglia of Armstrong. After a tough match, Hass and Kinsler dropped the set 8-5. The second pairing of doubles for Georgia College was Schubert and Powell advancing to the round of 16 in dominating fashion with a win of 8-4 over Lander University’s Oscar Axelsson and Samuel Poutignat.

The Bobcats will be back in doubles action Saturday, Sept. 28 beginning at 8 a.m. and singles matches following at 1 p.m.
