Hartley Elementary students receive bikes as gift for attendance, grades

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)– Hartley Elementary Students were in for a surprise during the schools Christmas assembly.

This year, 30 students get to take home a new bike before the holidays. Students are entered in a drawing for a chance to win a bike and helmet.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office along with Academy Sports and Outdoors, donated new bikes and helmets to students with perfect attendance, academic performance, and good behavior.

The Holiday Bike Donation program benefits over 5,000 students across the country.

“Well just for being a great student, these kids that received the bikes, are already a success. This just awards that success and you can see from the reaction from their face. In the crowd they were happy with us and ecstatic to be recognized and to be getting special recognition,” says Sheriff David Davis.

Academy Assistant Store Manager, Christian Brown says it’s always a great feeling giving back into the community, especially to good students.

“We’ve been doing this for a numerous of years, where academy sports and outdoors, will do a bike give-a-way to The Elementary Schools in The Community. Children who have not received a bike, continue to do better in your school work, make sure attendance is there, make sure you study and get good grades. When you do those thing’s, you will always be rewarded.”

Academy Sports and Outdoors goal is to donate more than $400,000 in youth bikes and helmets this year to the community.
