Harris scores 1,000th point as Georgia College men’s hoops stays undefeated
Harris had 19 of his 28 points in the second half, including 10 in the final 2:19 to bring the Bobcats to victory. Classmate Ryan Blumenthal (Acworth) iced the game from the free-throw line, hitting all four of his attempts in the final 30 seconds to keep Anderson at arm’s length.
Harris went 10-for-15 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from long range, finishing with his third massive game of the young season. Harris has games of 29, 32 and 28 in his first three contests. He added nine rebounds and seven assists, leading the Bobcats in both of those categories as well.
Senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) was 4-for-6 from three-point range, finishing with 16 points, a season-best. He added five boards. Blumenthal finished with a season-high 11 points, including 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. He had five rebounds and three assists as well.
Classmate Rio McMillian (Chicago Heights, Illinois) was active off the bench, tallying eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
The Bobcats out-shot Anderson 40 percent (22-55) to 33 percent (18-54) from the field, and won the rebounding battle 44-37. Anderson kept it close by going to the line, taking 11 more than Georgia College (33-22). Randall Shaw led the Trojans with 26 points, including 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.
With a layup at the 7:30 mark in the second half, Harris became the 14th member of the 1,000-point club for Georgia College men’s basketball. Harris now stands at 1,012, positioned 74 behind 13th place in Stan Lynn (1988-90). Harris scored 452 as a sophomore, added 471 as a junior and has netted 89 already this young season.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m., playing host to Albany State University.
