Graphic Packaging announces multi-million dollar investment
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority (MBCIA) announced its new $136 million investment with Graphic Packaging International Monday afternoon.
The company, which designs and manufactures packaging for commercial products, plans to continue to modernize its Macon mill that has been in Macon since 1948.
“Honestly, it’s all supported by the outstanding employees that we have at the Macon mill right here in Middle Georgia, or as we like to say, the heart of Georgia,” said Vice-president of Graphic Packaging, Scott Grimes. “We just want to make it better and it’s a perfect opportunity to invest in the future of this facility which is an interval part of Graphic Packaging.”
There are no new jobs, but this new investment will ensure those 460 jobs stay in Macon-Bibb.
“This adds another check mark beside the name of a major corporation that decided that Macon-Bibb Georgia is a great place to do business,” said Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert.
This business adds to Star Snacks investing $12 million, Tyson Foods $60 million, Irving Consumer Products $400 million and Amazon$90 million, this year.
“I think we’ve proven ourselves in 2017 and I hope 2018 is just as good, if not better,” said MBCIA Chairman, Robby Fountain.
MBCIA has now made nearly $700 million in new investment for the county with new and existing businesses. It’s also helped create more than 1,000 new jobs.
