ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In anticipation of Tropical Storm Hermine, Governor Nathan Deal announced Thursday a plan for a state of emergency for 56 counties.
The state of emergency goes into effect at noon and extends until midnight on Saturday.
“We are working to ensure counties in south, central and coastal Georgia have access to the state resources necessary to prepare and respond when Tropical Storm Hermine enters Georgia,” Deal said in a news release.
Six of the counties under the state of emergency are in Middle Georgia. Those include Laurens, Johnson, Telfair, Treutlen, Wheeler and Wilcox Counties.
According to a news release, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency is coordinating disaster preparation efforts throughout the potential affected areas with assistance from several state agencies.
