Gordon Police Chief Attacked, suspect in jail
41NBC obtained the video of the entire situation.
Video shows Chief Mike Hall trying to calm down 46-year-old Dale Screws.
Residents on Elam Street in Gordon complained about Screws shouting obscenities up and down the street with his shirt off.
“He was a little agitated, and we were trying to talk to him and calm him down,” Investigator Andy Hester with the Gordon Police Department said.
He said after a few exchanges between Hall and Screws, the suspect lunged toward the police chief.
Hester caught the entire thing on his police issued camera that’s apart of his uniform.
“If it’s something that if you physically feel like you can not handle, as police officers…it’s not funny to say, but we don’t fight fair, we fight to win,” Hester said.
Hester said Screws has a history of alcohol and drug abuse, but he’s never been violent toward police officers.
“I’ve had to deal with him. I’ve had to help Ivey with back up with him. It’s just an isolated incident. It’s not an every day thing,” Hester said.
He is in the Wilkinson County jail charged with battery and obstruction of an officer.
Neither Hester nor Chief Hall were injured during the scuffle.
