GMC Prep students remember victims of 9/11

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – GMC Prep School remembered those whose lives were lost 13 years ago and those lost on the battlefield in a unique way.

Students gathered at the north end of the Old Capitol building to write the names of those lost on the bricks of the walkway.

Scott Seagarves is the chairman of the history department and he says it is a way to remember and educate at the same time.

The kids that I teach weren’t born when 9/11 happened and so its really not part of their frame of reference,” Seagarves said. “Our seniors were five, so they just don’t have a reference point, so part of our goal is to educate to remind them of what happened.”

Seagarves says he got the idea from the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC.

The students wrote the names of 3,025 people whose lives were lost on 9/11 and 6,816 names of those who gave their lives trying to stop it from happening again.
