GMC drops home opener to Kilgore, 28-19

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Military College junior college football team dropped its home opener to Kilgore (Tex.) Saturday, 28-19.

Kilgore opened the game with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Javelle Allen to Jeremiah Baines to take a 7-0 lead.

GMC tailback Jovon Robinson, an Auburn commit, scored on a 1-yard run on a 4th and Goal late in the first quarter to tie the game at seven.

Kilgore (2-0) answered with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Allen to Joe Lewis with seven seconds left in the first half to take a 14-7 lead into the locker room.

With just under 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter, GMC (0-2)’s Tyler Herman threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dominique Taylor.  After a missed extra point, the Bulldogs trailed 14-13.

The third quarter was also scoreless, but GMC (0-2) pulled to within a point at 14-13 when Tyler Herman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) connected with Dominique Taylor (Columbia, S.C.) from 20 yards out with 13:51 to go in the fourth quarter.

GMC got an eight point cushion after blocking a field goal and landing on the ball in the endzone for a touchdown.  The Rangers added another score with just over four minutes remaining when Allen connected with Corey Davis for an 18-yard touchdown pass.

The Bulldogs are back in action Sunday, September 14, when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va. to face the ASA (N.Y.) Avengers at 1 p.m.
