Georgia’s Democrats May Challenge Voter ID Law in Court

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A lawsuit could be looming for the state of Georgia, if the Democrats decide to challenge the Voter ID law.

Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, Michael Berlon, expressed concerns about the states strict law in front of an excited crowd at the party’s headquarters in Macon. He says during this election cycle laws in Pennsylvania and Indiana, that were much less restrictive were overturned.

He believes Georgia’s Voter ID Law should be challenged in federal court. Berlon says the party may file suit Bibb County where many voters are impacted by the law.

“Our lawyers are looking at challenging the Voter ID Law. We’d love to repeal it, but in the event that we can’t repeal it, it certainly needs to be modified and so that’s our goal for 2013, 2014. I don’t think it’s reasonable to think that it would happen before this election it’s just too close,” says Berlon.

Berlon also says by 2016 he’s confident Georgia will turn blue! He says this election will be all about turnout, because registered Democrats and Republicans are close in numbers.

Berlon says Georgia may surprise the nation, and vote blue in November.
