Georgia’s Cole Miller Back Home for Nationally Televised UFC Fight
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – They call him “Magrinho.”
It’s Portuguese for skinny, which describes former Mount de Sales Academy student Cole Miller to a T. Standing six feet, one inch tall and weighing in at 145 pounds, he’s not the most intimidating guy by looking at him, but don’t let his frame fool you.
Cole holds an impressive 20-8 overall record, including fights in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions.
“It takes a lot of perseverance and dieting and just overall discipline,” he says. “You have to train your boxing, your wrestling, your Brazilian jiu jitsu, you have to do your strength and conditioning, and you have to watch what you eat because you have to cut the weight.”
Miller trains in south Florida, but he says he gets back to Macon often. His girlfriend actually lives in Warner Robins, but he says fighting near his hometown makes being here that much sweeter.
“I started training mixed martial arts here in Macon in 2003 with a local spot that was doing some training,” Miller remembers. “From the moment I first did it, I knew that’s what was going to be for me, so I went through the amateur ranks. I turned professional, went through the pro ranks and ended up in 2007 getting on The Ultimate Fighter with UFC. After the show, I fought in one of the finales and I had a job.”
Cole will take on Sam Sicilia from Washington Wednesday night. If you want to see how the hometown boy does, don’t worry: it won’t be on Pay-Per-View for a change. You can see all the fights on national TV starting at 5 p.m. The main card, which Cole’s fight will be a part of, starts at 7.
“If you want to see what these guys are about and you want to see what fighting is at the high level, you need to come watch this event.”
UFC Fight Night 35 is Wednesday, January 15 at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth.
