Georgia Sports Hall of Fame announces Class of 2025 inductees

Macon to host 69th annual Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in February 2025

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2025 inductees, with the 69th Annual Induction Ceremony set for February 21-22, 2025, in Macon.

According to a news release, the weekend’s events will begin on Friday, February 21, with the GSHF Golf Classic at Brickyard Golf Club. That night, the annual Jacket Ceremony will be held at the Hall in downtown Macon. On Saturday, February 22, the FanFest Autograph session will happen at the Hall. That event is open to the public and free of charge. The weekend will conclude with the Induction Ceremony at Macon City Auditorium on Saturday night.

The Class of 2025 includes standout athletes and coaches across multiple sports:

  • Courtney Kupets Carter, a two-time Olympic medalist and former University of Georgia gymnast. She’s celebrated for her record-breaking NCAA career, including four national championships with the Gymdogs and nine individual NCAA titles in 2009.
  • Terry Holder, a Cochran native and legendary high school baseball coach. He led Evans High School and Greenbriar to eight state championships, becoming the first Georgia coach to reach 500 wins.
  • Tim Hudson, a four-time MLB All-Star and 2014 World Series champion. He’s recognized for his exceptional pitching career with the Atlanta Braves, Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants.
  • Marquis Grissom, a former Atlanta Braves outfielder. He’s known for his crucial role in securing the 1995 World Series and his four Gold Glove awards (1993-1996).
  • Terance Mathis, a former NFL wide receiver for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons. He made made history with more than 100 catches in his first season in the NFL and was instrumental in the Falcons’ 1998 Super Bowl run.
  • Leo Mazzone, the former Atlanta Braves pitching coach. He’s credited with shaping one of the most dominant pitching rotations in MLB history, leading to 14 consecutive division titles and the team’s 1995 World Series win.
  • Bob Rathbun, the veteran sportscaster and the longest-tenured play-by-play announcer in Atlanta Hawks history. He’s recognized for his contributions to sports broadcasting.
  • Theron Sapp, a football legend from Macon. His performance as a University of Georgia Bulldog helped end an eight-year losing streak against Georgia Tech, earning him the nickname “The Drought Breaker.”
  • Dennis Scott, a former NBA player. He’s known for his record-setting three-point shooting with the Orlando Magic and his collegiate success at Georgia Tech.
  • Jeff Wallace, the former University of Georgia women’s tennis coach. He led his teams to six national championships and 20 SEC titles over a 38-year career.
