Hundreds cited statewide during Memorial Day travel period
State troopers say they investigated hundreds of crashes and issued citations for DUI, distracted driving and seat belt violations.

ATLANTA (41NBC/WMGT) — Georgia State Patrol troopers and officers across the state have made hundreds of DUI, distracted driving and seat belt arrests and citations during the Memorial Day holiday travel period.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety says troopers and officers have made:
- 287 DUI arrests
- 565 distracted driving citations
- 755 seat belt violations
According to DPS, troopers have also investigated 235 crashes statewide during the holiday travel period with 134 reported injuries. DPS says 11 people have died in crashes statewide, according to data reported by all law enforcement.
DPS says 27 crashes involved drivers accused of being under the influence, while 12 crashes involved commercial motor vehicles.
“Drive sober. Put the phone down. Buckle up before you drive,” DPS wrote in a Facebook post Monday night.
