Kemp says he’ll sign bill suspending Georgia gas tax
Gov. Brian Kemp says he plans to sign a bill suspending Georgia’s fuel tax, which could lower gas prices statewide.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Georgia drivers could soon see relief at the pump, according to Gov. Brian Kemp, who says a newly passed bill will suspend the state’s motor fuel tax.
In a Facebook post Thursday, Kemp said House Bill 1199 provides “immediate relief for families by suspending the motor fuel tax” and that he plans to sign the measure Friday.
The Georgia General Assembly website shows the bill has passed both chambers, with the House agreeing to Senate changes.
A suspension of Georgia’s motor fuel tax could temporarily lower prices by about 33 cents per gallon, based on the current state tax rate.
As of Thursday night, GasBuddy showed the lowest gas price in Macon at about $3.45 per gallon.
