Georgia DNR ramps up BUI enforcement for July 4 weekend
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is joining a nationwide effort to reduce boating under the influence during the busy July 4 holiday weekend.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Georgia DNR Law Enforcement is urging boaters to stay sober and practice safe habits on the water during the July 4 holiday as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign.
According to a news release, Operation Dry Water is a nationwide effort aimed at reducing alcohol- and drug-related boating incidents and fatalities through education, outreach and enforcement. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is joining agencies across the country to support this initiative.
Boating Under the Influence (BUI) enforcement will be increased during between July 4-6.
“Consuming alcohol while boating increases the risk of serious injury for both operators and passengers,” the release said. “Even when the boat operator remains sober, alcohol use by passengers can still create hazardous situations.”
