Georgia DNR announces special early turkey hunt for youth, mobility-impaired hunters
Youth and mobility-impaired hunters will have an exclusive opportunity to hunt turkeys on private lands before the statewide season begins, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division.

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Youth and mobility-impaired hunters will have an exclusive opportunity to hunt turkeys on private lands before the statewide season begins, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division.
The special opportunity turkey season is set for March 22-23, 2025.
The early hunt is open to youth hunters aged 16 and younger and mobility-impaired hunters, including those confined to a wheelchair or those with conditions such as hemiplegia, monoplegia, paraplegia or a single-leg amputation above the knee. Youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, who may help by calling turkeys but may not take or attempt to take a turkey.
The season bag limit is one gobbler per hunter per day, with a season total of two gobblers.
All turkey hunters, regardless of age or license type, must obtain a free harvest record each season. Before moving a harvested turkey, hunters must immediately enter the date and county on the record and complete the reporting process within 24 hours through Georgia Game Check. More information is available at GeorgiaWildlife.com/HarvestRecordGeorgiaGameCheck.
License requirements vary by age and property type:
- Resident youth hunters under 16 do not need a hunting license.
- Hunters aged 16 and older (including those accompanying youth) must have a hunting license and a big game license, unless hunting on their own private land.
- Licenses can be purchased online at GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com, at a retail license vendor or by calling 1-800-366-2661.
The 2025 Georgia statewide turkey season opens on March 29 for private land and April 5 for public land. For more info, visit GeorgiaWildlife.com/turkey-info.
