Georgia College Softball Announces Mid-South Classic Tournament Times

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College Softball team has finalized its dates and times for the 2014 Mid-South Classic Softball Tournament that runs Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, Mar. 2. in Spartanburg, S.C. The Bobcats will play four games with two games on Feb. 28 and two games on March 1.

On Friday, Feb. 28 Georgia College will take on Brevard College (Brevard, N.C.) in a late-afternoon 5 p.m. game, followed by an early-evening 7 p.m. start against Carson-Newman College (Jefferson City, Tenn.).

The Saturday, March 1 games start early at 10 a.m. against Lincoln Memorial University (Harrogate, Tenn.), followed by a late-afternoon contest versus Lenoir-Rhyne University (Hickory, N.C.) at 4 p.m.

The Bobcats faced three of the four scheduled opponents last season going a combined 5-1, that included a split with Lenoir-Rhyne in the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.

Georgia College faced Carson-Newman in a doubleheader March 11, 2013 winning the first game 2-1, followed by an 8-7 win. Later that month, the Bobcats beat Brevard in a doubleheader on March 28, 5-2 and 6-2, respectively.

Georgia College followed their Peach Belt Championship (PBC) game loss against Columbus State University with a convincing 10-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne in its opening game of the NCAA Southeast Regionals on May 10, but lost the rematch the next day, 4-3.

From the time the Bobcats faced Carson-Newman (March) until the loss versus Lenoir-Rhyne (May), the team went an impressive 17-4 during that span.
