Georgia College Professor Visits Middle East Amid Protests
History professor Dr. Mark Huddle traveled to Syria and Jordan to teach about U.S. and African American history.
The U.S. Embassy in Damascus built a program around black history month, and asked Dr. Huddle to be the keynote speaker.
His ‘Democracy in Action’ lectures came in the midst of the protests in neighboring Egypt.
Huddle says that even though he was not where the conflict was happening, he was with people who had family or friends dealing with the conflict.
But the history professor says he was given the opportunity of a lifetime while he was in the Middle East.
“I lucked out, you know. I mean, I wanted to see it, and I got my opportunity at one of those moments that we’ll look back on and say, ‘this was history.'”
