Transportation investments set to shape Middle Georgia 

Governor Brian Kemp and the State Road and Tollway Authority have approved $26 million for Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank grants. Key projects include nearly $1 million for Wheeler County’s Alamo Safe Streets Initiative—improving streets and sidewalks near a local school—and $1.5 million for Washington County’s Kaolin Park–Franklin Haynes Boulevard realignment to boost park safety.

 

Relief for families impacted by wildfires 

Georgia Realtors, in partnership with the Realtors Relief Foundation, are offering housing assistance to residents affected by April’s wildfires, which impacted 91 counties. Eligible households can apply for financial help with housing expenses through July 15 if they live in a disaster-declared county. Some of those areas include – include Bibb, Bleckley, Telfair, Wheeler, Wilcox and Wilkinson.

 

Homeownership support for first-time buyers

In celebration of National Homeownership Month, HomeFirst is holding a free first-time homebuyers class on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. The event will cover the buying process, financing, and down payment assistance. Registration is required as space is limited.

 

Warner Robins extends moratorium on certain businesses 

The Warner Robins City Council has extended a 120-day moratorium on new liquor stores, vape shops, CBD, and tobacco-focused businesses. Mayor LaRhonda Patrick says the move is aimed at protecting youth and balancing business growth with community needs.

 

Macon–Middle Georgia Black Pages goes digital 

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Macon–Middle Georgia Black Pages will release its final print edition for 2026–2027 before transitioning fully online in 2027. The commemorative issue will feature a tribute wall and the theme “35 Years Strong: Honoring Our Past, Powering Our Future.”

 

Rideout Arsenal to bring jobs and investment to Thomasville 

Rideout Arsenal has confirmed construction of its $22 million manufacturing facility in Thomasville will begin this summer, with operations starting in early 2027. Inflation on the rise 

The annual inflation rate in the U.S. has climbed above 4% for the first time in three years, driven by higher oil prices. Economists predict the rate will top out between 4.5% and 5% this year, impacting the cost of everyday goods.

With World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, the Better Business Bureau is urging businesses to help safeguard older adults from scams and financial abuse, which cost seniors over $28 billion annually. Employers are encouraged to train staff to recognize warning signs and report suspected fraud.
