Generous Bike Donations to Make Children’s Holiday Season Brighter

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A nonprofit organization is getting a head start on making the season brighter.

Bikes Plus Kids organization is donating 60 bicycles to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Georgia.

Dr. Laura Reed of Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery Associates started the group to provide bikes to low income families in Middle Georgia. Each year Reed chooses a group of children in need, and purchases bicycles through her nonprofit.

According to Reed’s office manager Julie Weems, the organization decided to partner with the Boys and Girls Club, because they want to help build healthy and active lifestyles in children.

“To see them get a gift-maybe something they didn’t expect-is really fun for the kids. You know, it’s better to give than to receive, so…we like watching the giving,” says Weems.

Vice President of Programming for the Boys and Girls Club Angie Wilson says the generous donation will teach the children a life lesson.

“It provides things for our children that otherwise they would not be able to have. It helps us to teach lessons in the Boys and Girls Club about giving back to your community, and what that means,” says Wilson.

The bikes will be stored away and given to the children before Christmas.

Weems says if you would like to donate bicycles, you can reach her at (478) 742-7566 ext.142.
