GDOT announces weekend lane closures on SR 247 for storm drain installation

Drivers on State Route 247 in Bibb County should prepare for delays this weekend as the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to close three northbound lanes for storm drain installation as part of a roundabout project.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Drivers on State Route 247 in Bibb County should prepare for delays this weekend as the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to close three northbound lanes for storm drain installation as part of a roundabout project.

According to a GDOT news release, the closures will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and will affect the section of SR 247 between mileposts 7.01 and 7.31. All northbound traffic will be detoured onto SR 11/Broadway. The detour is expected to remain in place until Sunday morning, weather permitting.

GDOT urges motorists to drive cautiously, reduce their speed and expect delays while traveling through the work zone. The department also advises checking real-time traffic updates before hitting the road by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.
