GDOT Releases Plan To Widen Roads In Dodge County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Dodge County residents will soon enjoy wider roads and new bridges in the Georgia Department of Transportation’s latest construction project.

GDOT will spend 6 million dollars to widen about 2 miles and reconstruct a portion of State Route 87.

The project is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2015.

“These projects represent important road improvements for their respective communities,” State Transportation Board Chair Jay Shaw commented. “Attracting economic development and jobs and improving safety and mobility are tremendous benefits the TIA program brings to these areas of Georgia. We are fortunate the citizens of these regions voted for the TIA program so we can see progress like this and much more in the years to come.”

Everett Dykes Grassing Company, Inc., based in Cochran, Georgia, won the bid for the project.

GDOT plans to keep residents informed on future details–including lane closures–before the work begins.

GDOT is also spending 34 million in Columbia County to widen roads in that area.
