GC Women’s Basketball Now at 8-0 with Win Over Tuskegee, 75-48

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball team (8-0) looked impressive against Tuskegee University (3-5) with a 75-48 win in their opening game of the Stair South Classic Friday night at the Centennial Center.

Senior Brandi McKinney (Cincinnati) registered her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards to lead the Bobcats. Junior Enisha Donley’s (Loganville, Ga.) had a season-high 22 points and was just two points shy of a career-high.

Junior Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) added 14 points as she moved to No. 9 all-time in free-throws made with 220- passing Cassie Miliner (218) and Tracy Davis (219). Keys also is now just 33 points away from 1,000.

“It was a good win for us tonight,” said head women’s basketball coach Maurice Smith. “It was good to see our bench come and contribute and give us that extra boost when we needed it.”

The game was tied at 9-9 about six minutes into the contest when the Bobcats went on a seven-point run. Just a few minutes later, Georgia College would extend its lead to double-digits and not look back. The Bobcats would eventually go up by 31 points in the second half before ending the contest with a 27-point advantage.

The Bobcats were solid along the glass out-rebounding the Golden Tigers 51-36 for the night with four Bobcats getting four-plus boards. The team looked solid defensively, holding the opposition to a season-low 48 points. Senior Thresia Elskamp (Potosi, Wis.) led the team in steals with four and added four assists and six boards.

The Bobcats resume play Saturday against Limestone College at 3 p.m. following UNC Pembroke and Tuskegee’s 1 p.m. start.
