GC baseball 26th in preseason poll

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GC ATHLETICS) – The Georgia College baseball team was listed No. 26 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Preseason Poll, the organization announced recently.

Georgia College pulls in the national ranking based on a strong 2014 campaign, boasting a 35-17 mark and a trip to the NCAA Southeast Regional.

The Bobcats are one of four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools on the list, behind No. 3 Lander University, No. 12 Columbus State University and No. 14 USC Aiken. Defending National Champion University of Southern Indiana took top honors, with 2015 Bobcat opponent University of Tampa coming in at No. 2.

The Bobcat offense led all of Division II baseball in runs scored a year ago, and return key pieces in consensus All-American catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Michigan) as well as former All-PBC honorees in first baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville) and Jake Sandlin (Evans).

The 2015 season gets underway for GC Baseball in less than a month, as the Bobcats kick things off on the road at No. 2 Tampa Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
