GBI: Pulaski County father kills son on Mother’s Day
The fatal shooting happened around 10 p.m. Sunday at 49 Plumtree Road. The GBI says Leroy James Lawson shot his son Willie James Lawson once at the father’s mobile home after the men argued, according to GBI Special Agent at Large Eve Rodgers.
The shooting landed 67-year-old Leroy Lawson behind bars at the Pulaski County Jail. He is charged with one count of murder.
“Based on interviews that we conducted it appears that they were arguing over the way that Leroy Lawson treated other people,” says Rodgers.
The GBI says the men were arguing between the front door and the den area of the mobile home and that’s where Lawson fatally shot his son.
Authorities have not ruled out alcohol contributing to the shooting.
Agents interviewed a witness to the shooting and talked with people who lived near the mobile home. The victim’s mother was not at the mobile home during the shooting, added Rodgers.
The GBI declined comment about where the bullet hit Willie Lawson. Investigators wouldn’t release the type of gun that was used during the shooting.
Rodgers added Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office called in the GBI to look into the shooting.
