UPDATE: GBI investigating shooting death of McRae-Helena man in Eastman

The GBI says 31-year-old Eric Lewis Morgan was found shot in a yard on Lee Avenue after a Tuesday morning 911 call.

UPDATE: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a 31-year-old McRae-Helena man who was found shot outside a home in Eastman on Tuesday morning.

According to a GBI news release, a 911 call came in at about 8:10 a.m. reporting gunfire in the area and a man who had been shot. Agents said the victim, identified as Eric Lewis Morgan, was found outside in the yard of a home in the 5500 block of Lee Avenue.

Dodge County Middle School and Dodge County High School, both located nearby, were placed under a soft lockdown early Tuesday.

The GBI said the investigation is active and ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

According to the release, Morgan’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.

EASTMAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate a death in Eastman.

In an email response to a 41NBC inquiry, a GBI spokesperson said the Eastman Police Department requested the GBI regarding a “death investigation.” The GBI said official details will be released soon.
