GBI investigating deputy-involved shooting in Macon

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Macon that left one man dead Saturday night.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Macon that left one man dead Saturday night.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 5800 block of Bloomfield Road around 8:43 p.m. after receiving a report that a person had been cut. When deputies arrived, they found a 51-year-old man being attacked by a 35-year-old man armed with scissors.

Investigators say the suspect then charged at a deputy while still holding the weapon. The deputy fired, striking the suspect. Paramedics transported the suspect, identified as Joshua Epps, to a local hospital, where he later died. The 51-year-old victim was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Office will conduct an internal investigation.
