GBI identifies same substance in Bibb & Houston Co. fake pills

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Central Regional Crime Lab has identified the substance inside the fake pills that sent more than a dozen people in both Houston and Bibb County to the hospital.

Both the pills from the outbreak in Warner Robins last week and the outbreak that hit Middle Georgia back in June contain cyclopropyl fentanyl–another chemically altered version of fentanyl.

GBI lab personnel say the effects of these pills on the human body are unknown because they aren’t meant for human or veterinary use.

The Department of Public Health and Georgia Poison Center are keeping an eye on anymore activity concerning the pills.
