GBI: Dodge County woman dead after possible accidental shooting

EASTMAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The GBI is investigating a shooting that left a Dodge County woman dead early Christmas morning.

Bill Bodrey with the Eastman GBI says Rachael Pittman died from a gun shot wound to the head. He adds it’s possible the shooting was accidental.

Pittman was at an Eastman home with Timothy Harrell, Matthew Rowland, and Virgina Wilkerson. All four took turns pulling the trigger on Harrell’s gun. Harrell thought the gun was unloaded. When Pittman put the gun to her head and pulled the trigger, the gun fired, according to Bodrey.

Bodrey says Harrell, Rowland, and Wilkerson initially lied about what happened to investigators. They said someone broke into the home and shot Pittman. They also hid the gun in a creek.

Investigators recovered the firearm. Harrell is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence. Rowland is charged with leaving the scene of a crime and tampering with evidence. Wilkerson is charged with falsely reporting a crime.

Bodrey says the Eastman GBI and Police Department are still investigating this case.
