GBI arrests former Ivey police chief

IVEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Arrest warrants show former Ivey Police Chief John Richards had allegedly been pawning guns owned by the city for the last five years. 

The GBI arrested Richards on Friday. 

According to a news release from the GBI, John Richards was arrested and charged with one count for violation of oath by a public officer and four counts of theft conversion leased/rented personal property.

The arrest came after an investigation by the GBI into accusations that Richards had misappropriated property belonging to the City of Ivey 

Warrants show a series of guns ranging from a glock pistol to a 9mm pistol were illegally pawned in Milledgeville. 

Sherry Lang with the GBI says Ivey Police initially asked for an investigation on June 11th, a week after Richards resigned. 

District Attorney Fred Bright also asked for investigation on the 12th. 

Richards bonded out of the Baldwin County Jail on Monday for $25,000.
