Ga. Department of Labor: Number of Jobs May Increase During Holidays

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — It is a busy shopping time at Bass Pro Shops just off of Bass Road, and with the holidays right around the corner, the Georgia Department of Labor predicts stores like Bass Pro Shops across the Macon area will be hiring.

For the Macon metropolitan area, statistics show the most jobs have been added each year in the months of October and November.

This trend occurred in 2010, 2011, and in 2012. Last year, there were about 1700 jobs total added in Macon during the pre-holiday months, with about 35% of those being in retail.

“Starting at the end of September, early October we start interviewing, said Bass Pro Shops store manager Tom Moody. “We want to hire anywhere from 30 to 40–that helps us grow our sales force on the floor. We get the cream of the crop. We have at least six weeks to take a look and see what type of associate–see if it’s someone we want to grow into our establishment.”

And with the way business is going, Moody believes, he’ll be hiring more seasonal employees each year.

“With the tradition that we’re growing and the amount of people that we’re seeing, I see that growing even further than that,” said Moody.
