Funeral preparations underway for fallen correctional officer

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Preparations began for the funeral of Officer Curtis Billue at Wilkinson County High School Friday.

“From the readings I’ve done of Officer Billue he was a fine outstanding officer in the military, U.S. Army,” David Blanton said, the state president for Patriot Guard Riders.

Law enforcement, former military, and people who just wanted to help were turning the Wilkinson County High School gymnasium into a place worthy of telling Officer Billue, thank you.

(DB): I’m an army man myself so I’m very partial to our veterans,” Blanton said. “It means a lot for me to be here as he was a fellow soldier.”

Born in Milledgeville, Officer Billue was a college graduate, an army bet and a corrections officer.

“Only an outpouring of a true community servant, someone who has given tirelessly to contribute to his community, President of Slater’s Funeral Home Andra Jenkins said.

He still made time for family.

“One of the most memorable stories I’ve heard about Officer Billue is walking his father in his neighborhood and making sure he had an outdoor recreation experience and his father is old about 95,” Jenkins said.

Slater’s Funeral Home and the Patriot Gurard Riders are making sure this funeral is easy for the family.

“We’ll have two bikes going out to pickup the family, we’ll stand in a flag line for one hour before the service starts,” Blanton said.

Taking the time before the funeral to make sure everything is in order, for a man whose job was keeping order.

The funeral for Officer Billue is in the gym at Wilkinson County High School on Saturday, June 17. It starts at 11 p.m.
