Fugitive on Parole During Fatal Shooting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A recent weekend murder stemmed from a love triangle, according to ther U. S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force Supervisory Inspector, John Edgar.

Edgar said 38-year-old Quinton Jones shot and killed 35-year-old Steve Johnson during a wake infront of 10 witnesses. Jones was dating the victim’s ex-girlfriend.

Johnson was shot five times with bullet wounds to his head, arms, buttocks and chest.

The fatal shooting happened Monday around 2 a.m.,, on Fredricka Place in Macon inside the Village Greern community. The two men were attending a “sittin up” and got into an argument. According to Edgar 10 people saw Jones shoot the victim and leave.

Jones became a fugitive on the run and eluded capture until the following day. Edgar said the murder suspect was apprehended Tuesday around 11 p.m., at a Macon home without incedent.

“We received information through our investigation that Quinton Jones was hiding out at a location on 247 and Barnes Ferry Road,” said Edgar. “The task force responded to that location approached the address as we approached the address Quinton Jones came out with his arms up and immediately gave up.”

Jones is charged with malice murder and 10 counts of aggravated assault. Edgar said Jones was out on partole charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute at the time of the shooting. The U.S. Marshall supervisor described Jones aas a “career criminal.” Jones murder arrest was the 31st time he has been taken into custody.
