Free haircuts and school supplies given away at NAACP “Back to School” event
The event was held at the Family Investment Community Center on Main Street.
More than 100 students showed up for the event. Boys got free hair cuts while girls were given free hair salon appointment certificates.
The NAACP also gave away school supplies.
Macon-Bibb NAACP Branch President Gwen Westbrooks says the organization wanted to help parents with the cost of sending their children to school.
“We have families that you know, buying school clothes and buying school supplies and hair cuts and hair styles, that takes a lot, and it’s costly,” explained Westbrooks. “So we wanted to give back to the community.”
